BPA smashes Guinness World Record for blood pressure testing!

Published:

UK charity the Blood Pressure Association and Welsh occupational health provider Caer Health Services are proud to announce that they have smashed the Guinness World Record for the most blood pressures taken in one day!

The target to beat was 2,075 in eight hours, set in Oviedo, Florida in 2009, and together the Blood Pressure Association and Caer Health Services took 2,331 blood pressures. This meant 16 nurses had to work non-stop, taking on average 18 blood pressures each hour! The figures are now on their way to be verified by the Guinness Book of Records.

Sue Massey, Deputy Executive Director of UK charity the Blood Pressure Association, said: "We're absolutely thrilled to have broken the Guinness World Record for the most blood pressures taken in a day.

"Not only is it an outstanding achievement to be gracing the pages of the Guinness Book of Records, but it also means over 2,300 more people now know their blood pressure numbers, and so have taken the first step to lowering their risk of stroke and heart attack."

Dr Huw Davies, Managing Director at Caer Health Services, said: "It's been an absolutely fantastic day and everyone has worked very hard as a team to achieve this World Record.

"We're so pleased that Cardiff residents and visitors alike have been so supportive, the reaction has been tremendous. Of course, those who are really benefiting today are those who have found out they have a high reading, and thousands more people are now aware of the importance of good blood pressure health."

If you couldn't get down to St David’s in Cardiff, there are 1,400 other 'Pressure Stations' being held in supermarkets, pharmacies, markets and other community venues across the nation throughout Know your Numbers! Week (13-19 September).
