Anna Soubry MP for Broxtowe backs Know your Numbers! Week
Anna Soubry MP for Broxtowe is asking local residents 'Are you gambling with your health?' when she supports Know your Numbers! Week 2010, run by UK charity the Blood Pressure Association.
Anna is highlighting the importance of getting a free blood pressure check during the nation's biggest annual blood pressure testing event, which runs from 13-19 September.
She is having her check at Manor Pharmacy in Beeston, which is one of 1,400 venues across the UK which are offering free and convenient blood pressure checks during Know your Numbers! Week.
Research from the Blood Pressure Association has revealed almost three quarters of adults do not know their blood pressure numbers. This ignorance means they are taking an unnecessary gamble with their health, as uncontrolled high blood pressure causes stroke and heart attack.
One in three UK adults have high blood pressure. It's a symptomless condition – a 'silent killer' – so the only way to find out if you have high blood pressure is have regular blood pressure checks. However, once detected, it can be successfully managed.
Anna Soubry said: "I'm getting my blood pressure checked and supporting the Blood Pressure Association's Know your Numbers! Week because it's vital that people realise the importance of good blood pressure health. I hope everyone living in the Broxtowe constituency will take the opportunity to stop by for their free and convenient blood pressure check."
