CEO Update - April 2024

I can't believe as I write this, that over a quarter of 2024 has already gone, where has the time gone!

Since my last update, I have been continuing my New Year's resolution of reducing salt from my diet. Porridge with different fruits has become a staple for breakfast, and I'm checking the salt and nutritional content of the food I buy to make sure I am making informed choices about what I eat. Even some supposedly healthy options I was shocked at the salt content.

That is not to say I don't treat myself to the odd cheese and tomato toasty from time to time but everything in moderation as they say! In this April edition of our E-Positive Pressure, there are some really interesting things to update you on.

The government back in March launched its 'No Clues' campaign to get people checking their blood pressure in community pharmacies and as a charity, we have been backing this campaign.

Backed by the former footballer Graeme Souness and TV presenter Angela Rippon it features a first-ever sole blood pressure TV advert encouraging those over 40 to get their blood pressure checked for free by a community pharmacist. Having a blood pressure TV advert on national television for the first time is so important and we at Blood Pressure UK are very excited.

Take a look if you haven’t seen it here

September is coming around quickly so make sure 2nd - 8th September is in your diary for Know Your Numbers! Week. We will still be focusing on home blood pressure monitoring and that is our theme. We will be working with all sorts of partners, hoping this year will be bigger and better than ever. Our corporate partner Kinetik Wellbeing is running Know your Numbers! Manchester this year over a 6-month period from April culminating in Know your Numbers! Week in April so you can read about that in this issue.

The charity Action on Salt highlighted some really interesting findings about the high levels of salt in the cheese that we eat including plant-based alternatives which makes for some very interesting reading so check out the article in this newsletter.

There is still so much to do and I want to take this opportunity to thank all our supporters, members, and partners who without your help and generosity we couldn't reach the amount of people we do with advice and guidance.

So as always, a big thank you to you all!
