Take on high blood pressure by running a Pressure Station.
Nurses, pharmacists, and occupational health and fitness professionals offer blood pressure checks as part of Know Your Numbers! Week every September at pop-up venues known as Pressure Stations. Here you can read how to organise your own Pressure Station.
How to run a Pressure Station
Step 1. Register online
Before the registration opens each year, you can register your interest to take part and run a Pressure Station. This will be on the website from October to May each year. However, as we are running Know Your Numbers! Week 2020 slightly differently, you will need to use the register an interest form as the actual registration this year. There will be no Contact and Location forms for 2020. Or please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to register and take part in the 2020 campaign. Please include your fullname, job title and organisation if applicable, and your email.
If you have registered an interest, we will send you an email when it’s time to officially register your Pressure Station(s) for the next Know Your Numbers! Week. This will be from mid-May until late July.
There are normally two forms to fill in for the official registration – a Contact form and a Location form, and both forms must be completed in full in order to register you. These forms will be available as a download on the website from mid-May. You only need to complete one Contact form per organisation, but if you will be having multiple Pressure Stations then you must complete a location form for each one. When you’ve submitted your forms, we’ll send you a confirmation email and an ID number – keep it safe, you’ll need it later.
Please note that if either your Contact form or Locations form(s) are missing or incomplete, we will be unable to complete your registration.
See our FAQs to see who can run a Pressure Station.
Step 2. Order your resources
When you officially register using the Contact and Location forms, you’ll be asked to select a pack size for your resources based on how many people you expect to come to your event. You select the pack size on your Location forms.
There will be a small fee to take part which covers the cost of the resources and postage, and support in the lead up to the event. We can send you a cost break down if you like.
The cost depends on the pack size you order. Prices range from £17.50 plus VAT for materials to test up to 50 people, up to £135 plus VAT to test up to 800 people. We will send you an invoice after the event. See what your resource pack will contain and the costs per pack size.
Step 3. Plan your event
We will send you regular updates by email in the lead up to the event, with tips on how to get the most out of it.
You can host a Pressure Station wherever you like, in your work place, pharmacy, GP surgery, hospital, or local shopping centre. Just make sure it’s visible, in a busy public place with lots of passers-by. You will need to provide a suitable space for measuring blood pressures and giving information, and a validated blood pressure monitor.
Step 4. Promote your event
We will send you a promotion guide and a template news release to help you get publicity locally, through the local press and social media. Plus take a look at these tips for promoting your event.
We will include your Pressure Station in our Find your nearest check online search tool, guiding people to your event. Plus Know Your Numbers! Week will have national press coverage during the week.
Step 5. Run your event
Know Your Numbers! Week has broken world records, won awards and saved lives. It’s a lot of fun, and we’ll be here to support you during the week if you need us.
Step 6. Return your monitoring form
We will provide monitoring forms for you to record basic blood pressure data on during the event, which you return to us marked with your ID number. We will use this to produce regional and national blood pressure data, and we’ll send you the results in our Know Your Numbers! evaluation report.
You can find out more about who can run a Pressure Station and how in our Know Your Numbers! FAQs.
