Salt is a dangerous addiction, responsible for raising blood pressure - which can lead to strokes and heart attacks
On World Hypertension Day, TV Chef and Hell's Kitchen star Marco Pierre White declared: "We know salt is a killer. People suffer strokes and heart attacks as a result of too much salt."
Yet most adults in the UK are eating 50% more salt than is recommended every day, raising their blood pressure. Worldwide, high blood pressure causes:
- 62% of all strokes
- 49% of all heart attacks.
If everyone in the UK ate less than 6g of salt a day, then 20,000 more lives could be saved.
This site from UK charity, Blood Pressure UK, is stuffed full with practical ideas for cutting down on salt.
