Rowlands offers free blood pressure checks with Know your Numbers! Week
427 Rowlands pharmacies across the UK taking part in the nation’s biggest blood pressure testing event run by UK charity the Blood Pressure Association.
One in three adults in the UK – that’s 16 million – have high blood pressure, yet a third of those who have the condition don’t even know because it has no symptoms. Untreated high blood pressure causes stroke, heart attack and heart failure. However, once diagnosed, the condition can be very successfully managed.
Rowlands is among around 1,500 official ‘Pressure Stations’ being held in pharmacies, supermarkets, shopping centres, workplaces, and a wide range of community venues across the UK, all of which are offering free blood pressure checks during the charity’s event. For Rowlands, the initiative is part of the bigger picture; the aim to offer ongoing free blood pressure monitoring nationwide.
To find out more about the campaign, or for a free blood pressure information pack, visit the Know your Numbers! website at www.bpassoc.org.uk/kyn or call 020 8772 4994. Kenny Black, Managing Director at Rowlands Pharmacy, said: “At Rowlands, we feel it is vital that people know what their blood pressure is. Many people are unaware that they have high blood pressure because there can be no signs or symptoms. By working with the Blood Pressure Association, we hope to combat what can often be a silent killer and offer both medical and lifestyle advice.”
Mike Rich, Executive Director of UK charity the Blood Pressure Association, said: ‘High blood pressure affects a third of UK adults, yet millions have no idea that they have the condition. That’s why this year we’re asking ‘Could YOU be in the 1 in 3?’
"We want to save the thousands of lives lost each year to stroke and heart attack caused by high blood pressure, and a free blood pressure check during Know your Numbers! Week is an excellent first step to lifelong healthy blood pressure."
