Asda asks customers to 'Know your Numbers!'
Asda Pharmacy will be asking local residents ‘Could YOU be the 1 in 3 who has high blood pressure?’ when it provides free blood pressure checks from September 7-13 as part of Know your Numbers! Week.
180 Asda pharmacies nationwide are taking part in the nation’s biggest blood pressure testing event run by UK charity the Blood Pressure Association.
One in three adults in the UK – that’s 16 million – have high blood pressure, yet a third of those who have the condition don’t even know because it has no symptoms.
Untreated high blood pressure causes stroke, heart attack and heart failure. However, once diagnosed, the condition can be very successfully managed.
Asda is among around 1,500 official ‘Pressure Stations’ being held in pharmacies, supermarkets, shopping centres, workplaces, and a wide range of community venues across the UK, all of which are offering free blood pressure checks during the charity’s event.
Mike Rich, Executive Director of UK charity the Blood Pressure Association, said: “High blood pressure affects a third of UK adults, yet millions have no idea that they have the condition. That’s why this year we’re asking ‘Could YOU be in the 1 in 3?’
“We want to save the thousands of lives lost each year to stroke and heart attack caused by high blood pressure, and a free blood pressure check during Know your Numbers! Week is an excellent first step to lifelong healthy blood pressure.”
