Register now for Know your Numbers! Week 2012
14/06/2012

Registration is now open for this year’s Know your Numbers! Week, the Blood Pressure Association’s award winning public awareness campaign.

Every September, thousands of organisations and health professionals take part in the event which aims to test the UK’s blood pressure and raise awareness about the dangers of uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Offering free blood pressure checks at a Know your Numbers! Week ‘Pressure Station’ can quite literally save lives.

High blood pressure is responsible for 60% of strokes and 40% of heart attacks, resulting in needless deaths and disability. Around 16 million people in the UK have it, and it is estimated that a third of these are unaware of the fact so are not taking any steps to reduce it. That’s more than 5 million people whose lives are actually at risk.

Last year there were some 1,500 Pressure Stations. Community pharmacies, supermarkets, shopping centres, farmer’s markets, churches, mosques, gyms and occupational health departments turned themselves into Pressure Stations to help test the blood pressure of thousands of members of the public who didn’t know their numbers.

If you would like to run a Pressure Station offering free blood pressure checks during this year's Know your Numbers! Week, which takes place from 10-16 September, please visit the Know your numbers website.

All participants receive blood pressure Resource Packs containing expert information, leaflets, record cards and promotional materials.

Know your Numbers! Week is a high profile, national health campaign so participants also benefit from the extensive media coverage it gains.

Many pharmacies see an increase in their prescriptions service as a result of Know your Numbers! Week, with new customers forming an ongoing relationship as a direct result of having an in-pharmacy blood pressure check. This is particularly true if a customer went on to require blood pressure medication as a result of that check.

Taking part in Know your Numbers! Week really does benefit everyone. Businesses benefit and so does the community with a raised awareness of high blood pressure and its dangers.

The Blood Pressure Association is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting people with high blood pressure. This will be the 12th Know your Numbers! Week. Those who take part will be helping even more people to avoid the devastating effects of high blood pressure.
