Eating chicken lowers high blood pressure?

Research using rats in Japan suggests that eating chicken legs or chicken soup may help to lower your blood pressure.

In this study, the researchers wanted to see if collagen - a protein found in chicken legs - could be broken up by the stomach into smaller proteins that lower blood pressure. When the scientists carried out their study, they found that the smaller pieces included ones that work just like the blood pressure medications, ACE inhibitors. Please click on this link for more about ACE inhibitors.

To see the smaller proteins really could lower blood pressure, they were then then fed to rats whose blood pressures were measured for 24 hours. The chicken leg proteins caused a fall in blood pressure that slowly wore off over the 24 hour period. Because of this, the study's researchers are suggesting that people could eat chicken soup made from chicken leg meat to help lower their blood pressure even further.

However, chicken legs do not contain enough collagen to replace taking your blood pressure medicines if you have been prescribed them.

But you don't have to eat only chicken soup to help lower your blood pressure. There are many other small changes you can make to your daily diet and activity that will have a large effect in lowering your blood pressure:

By making these changes to your daily life you will help to dramatically lower your risk of developing heart disease, stroke or kidney disease due to high blood pressure in the future.
